Freak the Mighty strikes again!

After reading chapter 13, students created a tableau that depicted the scene they thought to be the most important in the chapter. The class then guessed what the scene was based on the tableau.  After their presentation, the groups were asked to justify their thinking using evidence from the text. This is where the debate began.
As a class, we brainstormed the possible reasons why each scene was the most important scene in the chapter.  We recorded our thinking, then we reviewed the format for writing a persuasive paragraph.  With our evidence recorded and our format reviewed, we were ready to start planning in our groups.  The conversations that followed were incredible!  The students were listening, sharing opinions and really thinking about what evidence would best support their point of view as a group.

Les tableaux d'inspiration

In français, we've been hard a work on writing our goals for the year and creating our inspiration boards represent our goals.  The published work has been outstanding so far!
Here are a few of the our published pieces:

Note: A published piece of writing has gone through our six writing stages: THINK, PLAN, DRAFT, REVISE, EDIT, PUBLISH.

In FLA today we created, "I am thankful for..." pumpkins. After we learnt about how to structure an "I am thankful for..." sentence in French, students were given a set of directions on how to create their pumpkins.  They had to complete the task without any help from me, relying solely on their reading comprehension strategies.  The outcome was AWESOME!  I am incredibly thankful for these 25 amazing kiddos.  They make coming to work everyday such a pleasure.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!

HOMEWORK ALERT!

Our Venn diagrams are due on Tuesday, October 10th.

And in sciences humaines...

         We are mapping!

We are reading Freak the Mighty as a mentor text for our upcoming lit circles.  Here are our learning girls and a bit of what we've been working on to meet them!

For the kiddos that are busy at work trying to complete their timelines, here are some pics of our bulletin boards to help you be successful in completing the task at home.

Terry Fox

We had such a great time on our Terry Fox Day!  As a class, we ran or walked almost 100 km and raised 31 dollars, which is 6 dollars more than our goal of 1 dollar per person.  Our class was respectful and responsible and showed SO MUCH school spirit.  Bravo!
